Upallay sigue la historia de Beto, un joven periodista que espera con ansias el nacimiento de su primer hijo junto al amor de su vida. Él recibe la visita de Luis, su mejor amigo, quien lo invita a viajar a la sierra del Perú para cubrir un evento extraño en medio del Conflicto Armado Interno. Una oportunidad que han estado esperando para usar el periodismo como herramienta de cambio social y revelación de la verdad en tiempos de terror e incertidumbre. A pesar del miedo y el riesgo, Beto acepta el reto, guiado por su compromiso con la verdad. Sin embargo, al llegar a la zona de conflicto, el equipo es advertido del peligro que enfrentan. En medio de la incertidumbre, son confundidos por terroristas y condenados a muerte por una comunidad andina.
Upallay follows the story of Beto, a young journalist eagerly awaiting the birth of his first child with the love of his life. He receives a visit from Luis, his best friend, who invites him on a journey to the Peruvian highlands to cover a strange event taking place during the Internal Armed Conflict. It’s the opportunity they’ve been waiting for—to use journalism as a tool for social change and a means to uncover the truth in a time of terror and uncertainty. Despite the fear and the risk, Beto accepts the challenge, driven by his commitment to the truth. However, upon arriving in the conflict zone, the team is warned of the dangers they face. In the midst of the chaos, they are mistaken for terrorists and sentenced to death by an Andean community.
Javier Márquez (22) es director, editor, productor y guionista formado en la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. Desde los 11 años ha creado más de 20 cortometrajes, entre ellos El Rescate, El Laberinto y Código Hermano. Su trabajo ha sido reconocido internacionalmente: fue preseleccionado por The Academy para los Student Academy Awards (Oscars universitarios) por su cortometraje Olaya, y nominado al Serbest International Film Festival (SIFF). Su más reciente obra, Upallay, escrita y dirigida por él, está inspirada en el caso Uchuraccay. Actualmente, Javier se encuentra desarrollando su primer largometraje, con estreno nacional previsto para 2026.
Javier Márquez (22) is a director, editor, producer, and screenwriter trained at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. Since the age of 11, he has created more than 20 short films, including El Rescate, El Laberinto, and Código Hermano. His work has received international recognition: his short film Olaya was pre-selected by The Academy for the Student Academy Awards (also known as the student Oscars), and was nominated at the Serbest International Film Festival (SIFF). His most recent work, Upallay, written and directed by him, is inspired by the Uchuraccay case. He is currently developing his first feature film, scheduled for national release in 2026.
