La directora, una mujer fotógrafa, se aproxima al archivo de fotos de su padre, un hombre que, durante su juventud, guiado por la militancia contra la dictadura en Chile y un prolongado exilio, fue también fotógrafo. Actualizando las imágenes a las que va y de las que regresa constantemente, la directora construirá un lenguaje lúdico en un espacio oscuro donde conectar con su padre, habilitando un juego sobre las formas de hacer imagen y un fuera de campo a través del cual recuperar la imaginación y pensar sobre la densidad de la lucha, las consecuencias del horror y las posibilidades de concebir otros futuros. Una sombra oscilante explora el peso íntimo y político de las imágenes para abrir un espacio donde especular sobre qué puede seguir ardiendo en ellas, hacia dónde pueden convocarnos o qué pueden ofrecernos ante la incertidumbre de nuestros tiempos.
The filmmaker, a woman photographer, engages with the photo archive of her father, a man who was also a photographer during his years of militant activism against the dictatorship in Chile and his exile throughout Latin America. In the act of exploring these images, the filmmaker goes to and returns from the archive time and again, creating a game in an attempt to connect with her father. A variety of fictions emerge that weave themselves delicately into the narrative, creating the possibility to reflect on the resistance, the consequences of the horror, and the possibilities that images contain for conceiving other futures. Una sombra oscilante (An Oscillating Shadow) explores the intimate and political weight of images, provoking reflections on what continues to burn in them and what they can offer us while facing the devastation and uncertainty of our times.

Celeste Rojas Mugica (1987) es una artista visual y cineasta chileno-argentina. Cuenta con un Máster en Creación Cinematográfica de Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola. Investiga sobre las relaciones entre memoria, violencia y territorio. Trabaja con imágenes y archivos situando su práctica en el límite entre la ficción y el documental. Su ópera prima, Una sombra oscilante, recibió el apoyo de Hubert Bals Fund, Fondo Audiovisual (CL) e INCAA (AR). Sus cortometrajes y obras han sido exhibidas en festivales como Doclisboa, Ars Electronica, San Sebastián y FICUNAM.
Celeste Rojas Mugica (1987) is a Chilean-Argentinian visual artist and filmmaker with a master’s degree in film Creation from Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola. She investigates the relations between memories, violence and territory working with images and archives in the borders of fiction and documentary. Her debut feature, Una sombra oscilante (An Oscillating Shadow) received the support of the Hubert Bals Fund, Audiovisual Fund (CL) and INCAA (AR). Her short films have been part of festivals such as Doclisboa, Ars Electronica, San Sebastian and FICUNAM.
