La obsesión de Óscar Restrepo por la poesía no le ha traído gloria. Envejecido y errático, ha sucumbido al cliché del poeta en las sombras. Conocer a Yurlady, una adolescente de orígenes humildes, y ayudarla a cultivar su talento trae algo de luz a sus días. Pero arrastrarla al mundo de los poetas puede que no sea el camino adecuado.
Óscar Restrepo’s obsession with poetry has brought him no glory. Aged and erratic, he has succumbed to the cliché of the poet in the shadows. Meeting Yurlady, a teenager from a humble background, and helping her nurture her talent brings some light into his days. But dragging her into the world of poets might not be the right path.

Simón Mesa Soto es un director, guionista y productor colombiano. Estudió Comunicación Audiovisual en la Universidad de Antioquia y posteriormente realizó una maestría en la London Film School. Su cortometraje de tesis, Leidi, ganó la Palma de Oro en el Festival de Cine de Cannes en 2014. Con su siguiente cortometraje, Madre, fue nuevamente seleccionado en la Competencia Oficial del Festival de Cannes en 2016. Ambos cortos fueron ampliamente exhibidos en festivales alrededor del mundo. Amparo, su primer largometraje, se estrenó en la Semana de la Crítica del Festival de Cannes 2021, donde obtuvo el Premio Louis Roederer Foundation a la Estrella en Ascenso para su actriz principal. La película ha recorrido más de cincuenta festivales internacionales y ha sido galardonada en La Habana, Chicago, Lima y Punta del Este, entre otros. Amparo fue la gran ganadora de los Premios Macondo 2022 de la Academia Colombiana de Cine, obteniendo siete premios, incluyendo Mejor Dirección y Mejor Película. Un poeta es su segundo largometraje.
Simón Mesa Soto is a Colombian director, screenwriter and producer. He studied Audiovisual Communication at the University of Antioquia and later pursued a master’s degree at the London Film School. His thesis film, Leidi, won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival 2014. With his next short film, Mother, he was again selected in the Official Competition of the Cannes Film Festival 2016. Both short films were widely screened at festivals around the world. Amparo, his first feature film, premiered at the Cannes Critics’ Week 2021, where it won the Louis Roederer Foundation Rising Star Award for its lead actress. The film has toured more than fifty film festivals around the world and has won awards in Havana, Chicago, Lima and Punta del Este, among other festivals. Amparo was the big winner of the Colombian Film Academy’s Macondo Awards 2022, winning seven awards including Best Director and Best Film. A Poet is his second feature film.
