La empresa “Alvaro Velarde Producciones SRL” comenzó sus actividades en 1997 cuando presentó a CONACINE el cortometraje “98 Thompson”, posteriormente premiado por dicha institución. Sus siguientes cortometrajes (“C. Lloyd” y “Roces”) también fueron premiados por CONACINE además de recibir premios internacionales. “Roces” fue seleccionado para participar en el Festival de Berlín. El primer largometraje de la empresa titulado “El Destino No Tiene Favoritos” fue realizado con premios tanto de CONACINE como de la fundación “Hubert Balls Fund” en Rotterdam. Esta película ganó más de 10 premios internacionales, entre ellos el de mejor película en el “Festival de Comedia de Móstoles” en España; también fue proyectada en el Festival de Cannes y en 2004 representó al Perú en los premios Goya en España. El segundo largometraje realizado por la empresa: “La Cosa” también recibió el premio de producción cinematográfica del Ministerio de Cultura (DAFO). Tuvo su estreno mundial 2013en el prestigioso festival de Busan en Corea del Sur y luego en 2019 recibió el estímulo económico otorgado por DAFO para su estreno comercial en Perú. Este lanzamiento se hizo de forma experimental acompañando la proyección de la película con efectos teatralizados en vivo durante la proyección. Dicho acontecimiento se dio en los teatros y centros culturales más prestigiosos de la capital. El tercer largometraje de la empresa “El Candidato” (2016), una sátira al populismo político ha sido la película de la empresa más vista a la fecha, primero en salas peruanas por 113mil personas, luego por medio de “Latina”, llegando a dos millones de personas aproximadamente. También ha sido vista en varios países de habla hispana por medio del canal de cable extranjero “Cine Latino”. En 2017, El Candidato ganó el premio a “mejor guion” en el festival de “Figueira da Foz” en Portugal. En 2019, la empresa recibió el premio de DAFO para la preservación audiovisual de un material fílmico familiar del gerente de la empresa, Álvaro Velarde. Este material de 8mmconformado por más de 200 rollitos de 3 min. cada uno, fue digitalizado y pudo ser redescubierto. En el aparecen muchos registros curiosos del Perú desde el año de 1939hasta 1959. En 2023 el Ministerio de Cultura le otorgo al gerente de la empresa Álvaro Velarde, el premio a la “Destacada trayectoria en el ámbito audiovisual” y luego en 2024 el Ministerio organizó una retrospectiva completa de toda su obra como director y guionista en la sala de cine Armando Robles Godoy. La empresa está en la preproducción de un nuevo largometraje titulado “Todo Tiempo Pasado”, una sátira que, utilizando parte del material de archivo rescatado en 2019, busca reflexionar sobre las diferencias entre dos épocas. largometrajes de ficción 2023 donde quedó finalista y constituye el proyecto de esta aplicación. Actualmente, la empresa Álvaro Velarde Producciones ha logrado digitalizar sus obras más representativas, esto es, sus dos primeros cortometrajes de títulos 98 Thompson y C. Lloyd, un cuento de crimen y castigo, así mismo el reconocido cortometraje Roces y su ópera prima, El destino no tiene favoritos. Constituyendo y completando la digitalización completa de su catálogo, esto último fue gracias al premio de preservación audiovisual otorgado por DAFO en el año 2024.
The company “Álvaro Velarde Producciones SRL” began its activities in 1997 when it presented the short film 98 Thompson to CONACINE, which was later awarded by the same institution. Its subsequent short films (C. Lloyd and Roces) were also awarded by CONACINE, in addition to receiving international prizes. Roces was selected to participate in the Berlin Film Festival. The company’s first feature film, titled El Destino No Tiene Favoritos (Destiny Has No Favorites), was produced with support from both CONACINE and the Hubert Bals Fund in Rotterdam. This film won over 10 international awards, including Best Film at the Móstoles Comedy Film Festival in Spain. It was also screened at the Cannes Film Festival and represented Peru at the Goya Awards in Spain in 2004. The company’s second feature film, La Cosa, also received the film production award from the Ministry of Culture (DAFO). It had its world premiere in 2013 at the prestigious Busan Film Festival in South Korea and, in 2019, received additional funding from DAFO for its commercial release in Peru. This release was conducted experimentally, combining the screening of the film with live theatrical effects. The event took place in the most prestigious theaters and cultural centers in the capital. The company’s third feature film, El Candidato (2016), a satire on political populism, has been its most-watched film to date — first in Peruvian cinemas with an audience of 113,000, then on the national TV channel Latina, reaching approximately 2 million viewers. It has also been broadcast in several Spanish-speaking countries via the international cable channel Cine Latino. In 2017, El Candidato won the award for Best Screenplay at the Figueira da Foz Festival in Portugal. In 2019, the company received a DAFO grant for the audiovisual preservation of a family film archive belonging to the company’s manager, Álvaro Velarde. This 8mm material, consisting of over 200 three-minute reels, was digitized and rediscovered. It features many fascinating records of Peru from 1939 to 1959. In 2023, the Ministry of Culture awarded Álvaro Velarde the prize for “Outstanding Career in the Audiovisual Field.” In 2024, the Ministry also organized a complete retrospective of his work as a director and screenwriter at the Armando Robles Godoy cinema hall. The company is currently in pre-production of a new feature film titled Todo Tiempo Pasado (All Past Time), a satire that seeks to reflect on the differences between two eras, using part of the archival footage rescued in 2019. This project was a finalist in the 2023 Fiction Feature Film Competition and is the basis for this application. At present, Álvaro Velarde Producciones has successfully digitized its most representative works: its first two short films 98 Thompson and C. Lloyd: A Tale of Crime and Punishment, as well as the acclaimed short Roces and its debut feature El Destino No Tiene Favoritos. This has completed the full digitization of its catalog, thanks to the audiovisual preservation grant awarded by DAFO in 2024.
