Fausta tiene una enfermedad, “la teta asustada”, que se transmite por la leche materna. La enfermedad no está causada por microbios ni se pilla por contagio, afecta únicamente a las mujeres que fueron maltratadas o violadas durante la guerra del terrorismo en Perú. Su enfermedad se basa en el miedo, y este le ha robado su alma. Cuando su madre muere inesperadamente, Fausta se ve en la obligación de afrontar sus miedos.
Fausta is suffering from a rare disease called the “Milk of Sorrow”, which is transmitted through the breast milk of pregnant women who were abused or raped during Peru’s terrorism war. While living in constant fear and confusion due to this disease, she must face the sudden death of her mother. She chooses to take drastic measures to not follow in her mother’s footsteps.
Es directora, guionista y productora ejecutiva. Estudió Ciencias de la Información en la Universidad de Lima y posteriormente realizó un Máster en Guión Cinematográfico en la Escuela Superior de Artes y Espectáculos de Madrid.
“Madeinusa”, su ópera prima, se estrenó a concurso en el Festival de Sundance de 2006 y obtuvo varios premios internacionales, entre ellos el Premio FIPRESCI de la Crítica Internacional en el Festival de Rotterdam y el Premio a la Mejor Película Iberoamericana en el Festival de Málaga, entre otros.
Su segunda película, “La teta asustada”, recibió el Oso de Oro a la Mejor Película y el Premio FIPRESCI de la Crítica Internacional en el Festival de Berlín de 2009. La teta asustada” es también la primera película peruana nominada al Oscar a la mejor película extranjera.
En 2010, fue invitada a formar parte de la Academia de las Artes y las Ciencias Cinematográficas de Hollywood.
She is a director, screenwriter and executive producer. She studied Information Sciences at the University of Lima and later completed a Master’s degree in Film Screenwriting at the Escuela Superior de Artes y Espectáculos in Madrid.
“Madeinusa”, her debut feature, premiered in competition at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival and won several international awards, including the International Critics’ FIPRESCI Award at the Rotterdam Festival and the Best Latin American Film Award at the Malaga Festival, among others.
His second film, “The Milk of Sorrow”, received the Golden Bear for Best Film and the International Critics’ FIPRESCI Award at the Berlin Film Festival in 2009. La teta asustada” is also the first Peruvian film to be nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Film.
In 2010, it was invited to become a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Hollywood.
